Kereru or Wood Pigeon - One Size

The kererū is a quiet presence in Aotearoa’s forest canopy—large, unhurried, and unexpectedly graceful for a bird of such generous form. It moves through the trees with a soft, buoyant rhythm, wings sweeping the air in slow, deliberate arcs that feel almost ceremonial in their steadiness.

Dressed in iridescent greens, deep purples, and flashes of white, the kererū carries the colours of the bush itself. In sunlight, its feathers shift like polished leaves, reflecting the forest back to itself as it travels between fruiting trees.

It is a vital wanderer of the ngahere, feeding on native fruits and helping to carry seeds across distances, quietly sustaining the regeneration of the land. There is a generosity in its movement—an unspoken role in the ongoing renewal of the forest.
